The greyscale study reminded me of this movie, Pleasantville. In this film, a village with strict social restriction, no emotion and no individuality is represented as a black and white world. As people there came to realize what they were missing as human beings, they gradually become in color.
Black and white are treated as NO color in here. And I think this might be our general conception of black and white as well. I heard some people saying that they feel uncomfortable with watching black and white movies or TV programs. For them, it only means “missing color”. As mentioned in class, most of us don’t really see 3-dimensional quality of color, and of course it includes black and white, too.
